If you are an individual or an external organisation looking to access training, we are happy to offer spot places on the programme below  or alternatively we are happy to run courses exclusively for your staff team.  Bespoke courses can also be arranged to meet your particular requirements.

Current Training Programme for employees of The Brothers of Charity Services (Scotland)

Listed below are examples of some of the courses we offer.

MOVING AND HANDLING OF PEOPLE:
Delivered by in-house Trainers who are all accredited and trained by Centaur Training & Development Ltd. http://www.centaurtd.co.uk/
Duration 14 hours
The two-day course gives an opportunity to fully understand the complexity of this important aspect of our work. It looks at the risks to both staff and client and how to manage them. The practical aspect of the course gives opportunity to safely practice techniques with each other.
The course is valid for two years.
The Refresher Course is also valid for two years (Duration 6 hours)


SUPPORT AND PROTECTION:
Delivered by internal trainers who have appropriate experience and responsibility within the organisation.
Duration 5.5 hours
 Raises awareness of legislation, policy and guidance relevant to adult protection. Gives opportunity to consider forms of harm and potential indicators in a supportive environment. Clearly presents our responsibilities to prevent and protect and clarifies the reporting procedure.
Refresher recommended after 2 years.


SUPPORTING ADULTS WITH DOWN’S SYNDROME:

Duration 3 hours
What is Down’s syndrome? The developmental and learning profile of an adult with Down’s syndrome. Health issues, ageing and the link to Dementia. Living with Down’s syndrome and what makes a good life?

BASIC FIRST AID
Delivered by Maxine Lock of Peritia Training Ltd.
Duration: 4.5 hours
This is a basic First Aid Course that equips you with the essentials to Preserve Life, Prevent Worsening of the condition and Promote Life. This course is accredited by iTC. http://www.itcfirstaid.org.uk
This course is valid for three years.


INTRODUCTION TO AUTISM:
Delivered by Scottish Autism. http://www.scottishautism.org/
Duration: 6 hours
Designed for practitioners new to the field of autism. Participants will be introduced to basic concepts and theories relating to autism. The notion of autism as a spectrum condition will be explored along with behavioural, psychological and sensory aspects of the condition.


INTRODUCTION TO NUTRITION AND FOOD SAFETY:
Delivered by Borders College.

Designed for staff working in none commercial food environments. Participants will gain a basic understanding of Nutrition, healthy diet and how to eat well, along with basic knowledge of safe food preparation, cooking, storage and cleaning.
